Shift Lead - Hood Packaging Corporation

Overseeing and leading associates on the shift to ensure the highest quality, production levels and safe operation of the shift in terms of safety of personnel and equipment, housekeeping, quality, productivity, waste amounts, required productions reports, quality monitors, other documents or reports as required, accurately and timely.  Directs and oversees work, training needs and production of the shift.  Responsible for all pre-setup and materials necessary to start orders.  Responsible to ensure oncoming shift has been communicated to and advised of all pertinent information regarding machine, orders and status of equipment and personnel.  Assist in assuring HACCP, GMP’s, Work instructions, and Food Safety Quality system requirements (SQF) are in compliance.  Must perform any other duties as directed by Supervisor and/or Management and works closely with them for advice, assignments and direction.  Performs minor to moderate maintenance work in the plant on shift as needed, specifically on the sewing line with sewing heads and equipment.  Must know, follow and demonstrate compliance with all safety rules and understand working safely is a condition of employment.  Must successfully complete Hood Packaging forklift training class (written and road test) and consistently demonstrate safe driving skills.  

Desired Qualifications:

Ability to bend, stoop, stand and walk on hard surfaces.  Ability to lift 75 pounds or more throughout the shift.  Ability to work all shifts including 12-hour shifts/7-day rotating shifts.  Ability to work overtime as necessary.  Ability to work in hot and cold environments.  Must have use of hands, arms and legs to operate equipment and perform duties.    

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Must understand and perform the following with little or no assistance.  Must be able to read and understand a manufacturing order for all equipment.  Must understand and demonstrate the mechanics of all machines and proper set-up of all machines and equipment to meet the requirements of the manufacturing order.  Must demonstrate knowledge and ability to complete all quality monitors.  Moderate computer/data input skills are required to operate all machinery.  Moderate math skills and ability to read a ruler are required.  Must demonstrate knowledge and ability to effectively communicate, lead and oversee all shift associates and operations.  Must consistently meet or exceed start-up/shutdown and waste goals and train associates to do the same.  Must work effectively as a team player and demonstrate and promote positive team spirit and leadership.  Must be able to successfully communicate with other team members to ensure customer requirements are met.  Must demonstrate successful knowledge, practice, understanding and compliance of all current work instructions for all machines and equipment and of all processes, policies and operations in the facility.  Ability to perform minor/moderate maintenance repair, change out and replacement work in the plant on shift.  Demonstrate, follow and practice all safety rules, policies, programs and practices always.  Must pass Hood Packaging Lift Truck written and driving test to receive license.  Must perform to safety and skill levels to retain license.  Understand that poor driving record and unsafe acts could disqualify the employee from this position.
