Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing. Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met. Serves as a laboratory resource to other health care personnel and collaborates with other departments across the enterprise. Demonstrates critical and independent judgment in decision-making and problem-solving. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

MLT: Associates degree in Laboratory Science required. Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or be registry eligible. Registry eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. MLS: Bachelor’s degree in laboratory or biological sciences required. Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or be registry eligible. Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) also acceptable. Registry eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Duties:

This is a full-time position working 72 hours every two weeks. Shifts will include days, evenings, and nights. Weekend rotation is currently every third working 12 hour shifts. Holiday rotation is currently two a year. The Sheldon laboratory is part of a 25-bed critical access hospital in northwest Iowa. We service multiple providers and three outlying clinics. We have many senior care facilities we proved care for as well as OB and pediatric practices. We provide services to many visiting specialists and doctors from surrounding communities. Our laboratory provides testing in hematology, chemistry, coagulation, blood bank, serology, and limited microbiology. Our team works well together and has a small town family feel. Sheldon is a quiet community with many recreational opportunities, a community college, a great school system, and new housing and large community center.
