Northwest Iowa Community College logoWant to learn a new hobby, improve your day-to-day life or experience a relaxing outing with friends? At Northwest Iowa Community College, we are striving to develop programming that is relevant, up-to-date, informative and FUN.

 

Let’s Paint! Watercolor Adventures: Explore the exciting medium of watercolor in this fun, hands-on class. Students will create a variety of paintings using basic watercolor techniques. We will cover the uses of washes and glazes, lifting, and how to create depth and contrast within a painting. We will also learn about color mixing, color harmony and compositional basics. All techniques will be demonstrated with personal attention given to each student. This class is geared for students who would like to learn and apply the basic tools needed for successful watercolor painting. Be adventurous and come paint with us!

Each student will need to bring these items to class: watercolor paints, (tube or pan, Artist colors preferred), palette, Arches Watercolor Paper, 9 x 12 or larger (140# cold or hot press), brushes,

(1/2” flat and #6 round), container for water, masking tape, drawing board to use as backing for watercolor paper, sketch pad and pencil, masking fluid (optional). Limited supplies of paper, paints, and brushes will be available for purchase. This course will be on four Mondays, March 12, 19, 26 and

April 9 from 6:30-8:30 pm in the Dining Room at Northwest Iowa Community College. Tuition: $89.
Judy Thompson, the instructor, is an award winning artist and signature member of the Iowa Watercolor Society. She has been an Artist-in-Residence with the National Park Service and is an approved teaching artist with the South Dakota Art Council. Her winsome and engaging style makes her a popular instructor. Using Your Digital Camera in the Manual Mode: In this interactive workshop style format, you will get hands-on experience using your digital camera in the manual mode. This class will provide information using the manual settings, including using F/stops, Aperture and ISO to take better photos using a digital camera in the manual mode. Bring your camera and camera manual. Students should have a basic knowledge of photography. This course #58922, will be Tuesday, March 13 from
7:00-9:00 pm at the Centrum Foto Studio at 215 Central Avenue NE in Orange City, IA. Tuition: $19. Instructor: Ken Fry. Ken has had a passion for photography since his early teen years and was a staff photographer in high school for yearbook and school paper. He carried his camera every day in school and developed an eye for capturing candid shots of people. Freelancing for the local paper, he shot sports, weddings, couples, and events through college and beyond and has been photographing full-time since 1999. Whether he is photographing Iowa wildflowers, a mountain meadow, Tulip Festival, a ’57 Chevy or an individual, he seeks to glorify God in every image.
